Job Description

Business Unit: Water Transfer


Oversees and coordinates activities of employees engaged in the shop and wash bay area. Ensures the shop and wash bay areas are clean and safe; that all assigned employees meet minimum safety standards, are trained in the proper and efficient repair and maintenance techniques per industry guidelines and company standards, and conduct themselves in a professional manner.  Managing employee productivity and overall cost are two critical factors measured to determine success.  May travel to work sites with overnight stays to supervise and coordinate activities of workers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform all items below.  Other duties may be assigned.   

  • Monitor and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Ensure all company equipment meets Federal, State, and company guidelines, including the proper management of all regulatory paperwork relative to maintenance (DVIR’s, roadside inspections, etc.)

  • Weighs the relative costs and benefits of a potential action or repair against productivity and cost guidelines and ensuring all vehicles meet federal and state requirements.

  • Remains aware of monthly and annual cost forecasts relative to actual spend; and communicates results proactively.

  • Actively participates in weekly planning and review meetings with yard management, partnering with management to improve processes and proactively address issues

  • Provides clear communication of performance metrics to employees

  • Manage out-of-service assets, coordinating priorities with yard manager on a daily basis, or as needed.

  • Inspects defective equipment in shop or field to determine extent of wear or damage.

  • Assigns all scheduled work directly or by proxy to technicians, ensuring a productive workflow within the shop.  When multiple shifts are required, ensures consistent shift-change meetings occur, including specific goals for said shift.          

  • Effectively manage and control parts inventory.

  • Control and manage 3rd party repair costs and timing of equipment repairs.

  • Monitor technician productivity and effectiveness through work order review, reporting, and real-time observation.

  • Support and enforce company policies and procedures.

  • Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.

  • Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among all functional areas.

  • Managing one's own time and the time of others in a work group efficiently.

  • Take an active role in requesting training programs to enhance equipment related objectives (e.g., operator training, equipment maintenance, etc.).


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability: high values and integrity.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment, oilfield equipment and vehicles.

  • Proven skill and effectiveness as a supervisor, with the ability to define and communicate objectives, delegate and prioritize assignments, and accomplish desired results.

  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to prepare and present understandable reports.

  • At least 5-years of related equipment management experience.

  • At least 5-years of mechanical experience in a related field.

  • Must possess attributes such as honesty, enthusiasm, ability to communicate effectively, logical thinker, a great work ethic, and must be personable.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. 

  • Involves sitting at a desk for extended periods of time.

  • Manual dexterity to operate specialized equipment.

  • Needs high degree of concentration in a busy area.


Work Environment

  • Must be willing to travel on occasion.

  • Traditional Monday through Friday, 8 – 5 pm, unless operational tempo and requirements dictate otherwise.

  • Position works inside a climate-controlled environment a majority of the time.

  • Position will travel to various field sites with austere conditions on occasion.
